The Benefits of Shampoo

How often should I bathe my dog?

Bathing your dog doesn’t have to be a burden despite soaking yourself and the bathroom. It can be a fun time with your loveable hound. Now this doesn’t mean you have to bathe your dog everyday like we do. Overall frequency will depend on the breed of your dog, for most dogs a bath once a month will do, while dogs with oily coats may require weekly baths to maintain a healthy coat. Using the right shampoo will ensure the time you spend is time well spent and the end result will a happy pooch with a healthy and luscious coat

Can I use my shampoo on my dog?

Time for some science, you should refrain from using human shampoo on your dog as our shampoo is designed to wash away and replace the acid mantle (a lightly acidic layer that serves as a barrier to protect the top most layer of our skin). This is defined as the relative pH balance of the skin. Humans typically range from 5-6 pH level which is on the acidic side and our shampoos are formulated with this in mind. Now dogs tend to have pH levels of around 5.5-7.7, a more alkaline concentration. Therefore, if human shampoo is used on a dog regularly their acid mantle may become disrupted creating an environment for bacteria to run rampant. This is why dog shampoos are specifically made with the canine’s pH levels in mind. Dog specific shampoo is gentle on their fur to prevent their coats natural oils from being stripped yet strong enough to get out dirt and other unwanted particles.
